My Little Brother

My Little Brother

My Little Brother

MY baby brother's fat, as fat
As any boy can be,
And he is just the sweetest duck
That ever you did see.

I count the dimples in his hands
A dozen times a- day,
And often wonder when he coos
What he would like to say.

I comb the down upon his head-
He has'nt any hair,-
It must be cold without, and yet
He never seems to care.

It is so nice to see him kick,
He has such pretty feet ;
I think if we might eat him up
It would be quite a treat.

DAYBREAK

DAYBREAK

DayBreak

A wind came up out of the sea,
And said: "O mists, make room for me!"

It hailed the ships, and cried: "Sail on,
Ye mariners, the night is gone."

And hurried landward far away,
Crying: "Awake! it is the day.”

It said unto the forest : " Shout!
Hang all your leafy banners out!

It touched the wood-bird's folded wing,
And said : " O bird, awake and sing !"

It whispered to the fields of corn :
"Bow down, and hail the coming morn!"

It shouted through the belfry tower:
"Awake, O bell! proclaim the hour."

Moring Time

Moring Time

AWAKE, my pet !
What ! slumbering yet,
When the day's so warm and bright ?
The flowers that wept
Before they slept
O'er the darkness of yesternight,
Have listened long
To the lark's wild song,
And awoke with the morning light.

Again and again
Through the window-pane
The jasmine flowers kept peeping
And in at the door,
And along the floor,
The sunny rays came creeping,
So I opened wide
The sash, and tried
To tell them you were sleeping.

Awake, my dear,
The winter drear
Has fled with all things dreary,
But quickly by
The spring will fly,
And soon the birds will weary.
Awake while yet
The dew is wet
And day is young, my deary.

The Lion and the Mouse

The Lion and the Mouse

The Lion And The Mouse

Once when a Lion was asleep, a little Mouse began running up and down upon him. This soon wakened the Lion, who placed his huge paw upon him and opened his big jaws to swallow him.

"Pardon, O King!" cried the little Mouse, "Forgive me this time. I shall never repeat it and I shall never forget your kindness. And who knows, but I may be able to do you a good turn one of these days"

The Lion was so tickled at the idea of the Mouse being able to help him, that he lifted up his paw and let him go.Sometime later a few hunters captured the King and tied him to a tree while they went in search of a wagon to carry him on.

Just then the little Mouse happened to pass by, and seeing the sad plight in which the Lion was, ran up to him and soon gnawed away the ropes that bound the King of the Beasts. "Was I not right" said the little Mouse, very happy to help the Lion.

The Teacher and the Student

The Teacher and the Student

Once, the Bodhisattva was born as Karandiya, a young Brahmin studying under a renowned teacher in Takshila. The teacher had a habit of preaching moral laws to anyone and everyone he met, regardless of the face whether they were willing to listen or not.

One day, Karandiya went out with his friends to a nearby village. On the way, while crossing a jungle, he noticed a cave and started throwing stories as it. After they returned, they students informed the teacher about Karandiya’s strange behaviour. The latter asked Karandiya to explain his weird actions. Karandiya merely expressed his surprise and said, “Why can’t I try to make the world level when you think you can make the whole world moral?” The teacher realised his mistake and stopped his habit of preaching indiscriminately.

An Ant and Grasshopper

A Lazy grasshopper laughed at a little ant as she was always busy gathering food.

"why are you working so hard?" he asked, "come into the sunshine and listen to my merry notes."

"But the ant went on her work. She said" I am lying in a store for the winter. Sunny days won't last for ever."

"Winter is so far away yet, "laughed the grasshopper back.

The ant and grasshopper And when the winter came, the ant settled down in her snug house. She had plenty of food to last the whole winter. The grasshopper had nothing to eat so, he went to the ant and begged her for a little corn.

"No", replied the ant, "you laughed at me when I worked. You yourself sang through the summer. So you had better dance the winter away."

Elephants don’t forget

Elephants don’t forget

There was a bad Tailor in a village long ago. He used to play pranks with people. In that village there was a very good elephant. You know Maithree, elephants are very big animals. Though they are huge, they are very caring. If you give them Bananas they will take it from your hands. They also place their trunk on your head and bless you. The elephants love to take bath in cold water. They would go inside the tank , swim and also enjoy pouring water all over themselves.
The Mahout( he is the care taker of elephants) used to take the elephant daily to its bath. On the way was the tailors shop. One day the tailor offered a banana fruit to the elephant. From that day, the elephant used to bless the tailor daily. Then the tailor thought of playing tricks with the elephant.                  The next day when the elephant blessed him, he took the needle he was stitching and drove it in side the trunk of the elephant. The elephant was very angry . But it kept quiet. From that day, the elephant stopped blessing the tailor. After a few more days, the tailor forgot the entire thing. It was Deepavali. You know Maithree, on Deepavali days, all people get new clothes stitched. So the Tailors shop was full of clothes.                                                                                                                                                      The elephant that day while returning from its bath in the tank, stored lot of muddy water in its trunk. When it came near the Tailors shop it introduced its trunk inside the shop and poured all the muddy water inside the shop. All the new clothes were spoiled. The villagers got very angry with the tailor for spoiling all their clothes and beat him Thus the elephant punished the tailor.

Sharath Kumar and the jewel box

Sharath Kumar worked in the army of a king. When he was slightly wounded and injured one of his fingers, he lost his job. He felt dejected and started walking to his village which was at a very long distance. While he was walking through the forest, he saw a big mango tree with lot of mangoes in it. He felt like climbing the tree. Suddenly an old man who had a very big beard appeared there. He told Sharath Kumar, “My name is Mantra swami. I am a magician. You appear to be a very good person and I want to help you.
I would give you my magical towel. Along with it you climb up this mango tree. When you reach the top, you will find a big hole in the mango tree. Get down in this hole. This will take you to a room below the tree. In that room there will be a cash box. On that box a dog with saucer like eyes will be sitting. Do not be afraid. Catch hold of the dog and keep it on my magical towel. If you open the box, you will find lot of copper coins. After taking whatever you want, go to the next room. Here again there would be another box. On this again a dog will be sitting. His eyes will be like dinner plates. Do not be afraid. Catch hold of him and keep him on this magical towel. That box will contain lot of silver. Take whatever you want and go to the next room. Here again there will be a big box. On it a dog will be sitting. His eyes will be like cycle wheels. Do not be afraid. Catch hold of him and keep him on the magical towel.
This box will contain materials made of gold. Take whatever you want. Go to the next room. There will be jewel box and no dog there. Bring the jewel box. I want it for my magic.” Sharath Kumar did as told my Mantra Swami. He collected lot of gold and silver articles. He also got the jewel box. He came out and asked Mantra swami. What magic will this jewel box do? Mantra swami did not reply but tried to snatch away the jewel box from Sharath Kumar’s hand. Sharath Kumar simply pushed Mantra swami down and ran away. He kept on running till he reached a big town. He purchased a house and all material needed and started living comfortably. He gave lot of money to all persons in difficulty. Like this after some time he had spent all the money he had. He did not know what to do. Then he thought of the jewel box. It did not open. Then he hit it. Suddenly the dog with saucer like eyes appeared. It asked him, “Master, what do you want?” Sharath Kumar asked for more money.
The dog also told him, “If you hit this jewel box once, I will come. If you hit it twice, the dog with eyes like lunch plate will come. If you hit it thrice, the dog with eyes like cycle wheel will come. We will help you in whatever way you want.” Sharath Kumar was very happy. One day he saw a big black palace in the town. He asked his friends about it. They told him, “In that black palace, there is a pretty princess, who is very kind. But she is guarded day and night by her parents. They do not want the princess to marry any body.” That night Sharath Kumar called the Dog with Saucer like eyes. He told him to go and bring the princess. He brought her is a wheel chair. The wise merchant and the cheating donkey

The wise merchant and the cheating donkey

There was a wise merchant. He used to carry all his goods to the market on the back of a donkey.
He loved his donkey and used to take good care of the donkey. But the donkey was very lazy.
On the way from the village to the market there was a dry river. But once in a while the river used to fill up.
The donkey and the merchant used to get down in the water and cross it. The merchant was one day taking salt to the market.
The donkey knew this and without his knowledge slowly bent its legs while walking in the water. Because of this the bag of salt was drenched and salt got dissolved in water. The load of the donkey came down and the merchant lost lot of money. So the next day, instead of salt the merchant loaded cotton on the back of donkey. Do you know , Maithree when cotton gets wet , it becomes heavy.
The donkey did not know this. It played the same trick that day also. Then all the cotton got wet and became very heavy. The donkey thus got punished because of the wise merchant.

The Little Gingerbread Man

The Little Gingerbread Man

Once upon a time there was an old woman who loved baking gingerbread. She would bake gingerbread cookies, cakes, houses and gingerbread people, all decorated with chocolate and peppermint, caramel candies and colored frosting.

She lived with her husband on a farm at the edge of town. The sweet spicy smell of gingerbread brought children skipping and running to see what would be offered that day.

Unfortunately the children gobbled up the treats so fast that the old woman had a hard time keeping her supply of flour and spices to continue making the batches of gingerbread. Sometimes she suspected little hands of having reached through her kitchen window because gingerbread pieces and cookies would disappear. One time a whole gingerbread house vanished mysteriously. She told her husband, "Those naughty children are at it again. They don't understand all they have to do is knock on the door and I'll give them my gingerbread treats."

One day she made a special batch of gingerbread men because they were extra big. Unfortunately for the last gingerbread man she ran out of batter and he was half the size of the others.

She decorated the gingerbread men with care, each having socks, shirt and pants of different colors. When it came to the little gingerbread man she felt sorry for him and gave him more color than the others. "It doesn't matter he's small," she thought, "He'll still be tasty."
